WeTubeLIVE
Ben Speth
Presented by Dancehouse with the support of the Keir Foundation and of the National Gallery of Victoria
A living exhibition of 100 solos ripped from the internet and interpreted by a diverse group of young Victorians WeTubeLIVE is a performed response to the internet phenomenon YouTube. As a spectacle, as a concept and especially as an expression of community, WeTubeLIVE is a work of its time. The selection of YouTube clips by the players, their personal sound systems and the distinct performance spaces become a reflection of the cult of the individual and the seam of vanity now epitomised by Facebook.
WeTubeLIVE reveals a desire to build communities in whatever way possible, through numbers of friends, conversations within comment threads or just through laughing at the same clip.
